Drew Brees tells cool story on Dan Patrick show

This morning on the DP show, Drew was promoting a raffle to benefit the Brees foundation. For $2 you get a chance to have Drew come to your city and take the winner & 11 friends to dinner. (I can't remember the website to buy tickets).
During the interview, DP asked Drew what was the most expensive dinner tab he ever picked up. Drew told the following story about the 2009 Super Bowl season.
During the season, the tab rotates, as the QBs & Offensive Line go out to dinner each week. The rookies and younger guys pick up the tab each week until finally the older lineman and then the QBs pay. Sean Payton agreed to pay one week, but he never did that season.
So in Feb of 2010 in Miami, Drew reminded coach that he didn't pay for dinner yet. Sean gave Drew his credit card and agreed to pick up the tab in South Beach. Monday before the game they went to an expensive seafood place in Miami. After they were seated, the running backs & receivers showed up, so it became the entire offense. The restaurant happened to have Stone Crab claws in season for market price. It turns out they were $80 apiece and everyone was ordering them.
Drew gets the bill after dinner and it was for $8000, plus the tip was around $1600 for 20%. Total charge was almost 10 grand! Drew was not comfortable with charging that much to Sean, so he put it all on his own card.
The next day, Sean asked Drew about dinner and Drew told coach the whole story. Sean told Drew that it would have been OK to use his card, but it was too late. So Drew bought the entire offense dinner without planning to. CSB huh?

10,000 out of 20,000,000 ... no big deal. Like me buying you a small fry.

Just for fun, if you made $100,000 per year, that would be like paying $50.
ETA: Beat me to it.

It reminds me that this is a weird dynamic in professional sports where the immediate boss is underpaid compared to the worker bees.

In 2010, Brees wasn't making $20M.

This has to be a lie. It's a documented fact that Brees is a bad tipper.

That story made me so mad. I never tip at the takeout window. That's $3 more than they'd of gotten from me.

Just for fun if you made 100,000 a year; that'd be like tipping $0.015. That's kind of insulting.
Also, I supervise/advise salesmen that make 5 times as much as me. If salesman are good at their job and their product doesn't suck, it can be an extremely lucrative career.
ETA: Just to clarify, I also think the whole $3 tip thing is some entitlement bullshite poison from some adolescent service worker.

True, he was making $10M, which is half of that. It's equivalent to paying a $100 dining tab when making $100,000 a year or 1/1000th of his annual salary at that point.

Oh, I hear ya. I'm just being a contrarian today. It helps pass the time on a boring Wednesday in the office.

Do you normally leave a tip when picking up food at the curbside takeout? I don't.
