You catch fish suspended at 4' in 8 feet of water, no eggs.

Looks to me like the fish with eggs are sittin 30" above the bottom know what I mean

I'd say you are fishing deep, and shallow. And, fronts keep messing up the spawning cycle..They maybe spawning into June this year..

The males make the nest. Females move onto nests, lay eggs, and haul arse. It's the males that stick around guarding the nest for a few days.

This. I bet the ones that you are catching along the bank are real black/ dark in color and if you are catching more then one in the same spot, those are males.
I'm just seeing the males lining up on the bank in my pond.

All my fish were caught between 1-4 feet this weekend and almost all had eggs.

Fished Darbonne and everyone was saying the fronts had them screwed up.... All I caught were good slabs though but not a lot of them.
