Only 25% of those planned for the World Cup
quote:

After a year of ballooning costs, delays, and controversy over its labor practices, Qatar is cutting back. According to a report from Bloomberg Businessweek, organizers have decided to drastically scale back plans to construct a dozen new stadiums for the 2022 World Cup.

Though no official reason was given for cutting four stadiums from the country's plans, an analyst told Businessweek that the decision was "motivated by cost-cutting following an assessment of the real needs on the ground." Qatar is planning to spend at least $200 billion building infrastructure and buildings for the World Cup. That includes gigantic air-conditioning systems planned for some venues, because summer temperatures in Qatar can hover around 122 Fahrenheit.

They are now considering hauling several large icebergs from the Arctic Circle to the Gulf where they will be strategically placed close to shore and the prevailing winds will blow super-cooled air over the country.

I'm surprised they haven't declared a plan to pray to Allah for cool winds. I'm sure FIFA would have backed the idea.

Are you implying that corruption may exist in FIFA?

I would never do such a thing, she clearly earned that money from bake sales and girl scout cookie sales

I am hoping that the seasons are not delayed and not of the teams release their players. We would win the fricking World Cup as we only lose a couple players.

I wonder if the one's being cut are those they promised to build with removable upper tiers that they pledged to give to developing nations after the WC as "humanitarian" aspect of their bid?

What would a developing nation do with an upper tier of a stadium?

The developing nations preferred the less expensive seats. Cue drum roll.

Seriously though the stadiums were to be constructed so that the upper tiers could be disassembled, transported and reassembled as smaller stadiums.
