Charlie must have had a heart of gold because I have no clue how he put up with Rose at the beginning.

(Is this the first rom com? I'm only half way through so far so no spoilers)

It was made in the 50s so nope. Not even close.

I wouldn't even consider it a rom com TBH.

It's enjoyable. It's on Netflix now. It hasn't aged as well as some movies but if your willing to look past it, it isn't bad. There are some things I think are unintentionally funny. Like there's a scene where it's implied they have sex and the next scene he's passed out and she can't wake him up.

And yes, I do think it's a rom com. Not in the traditional sense, but the way they set it up. The prude church woman and the uncouth mechanic. Their interactions are certainly played up to show how different they are in a comedic manner before they fall madly in love.

I'm not done with it yet though.

seems like the basic wartime adventure romance to me.

Ok, the ending was a little more dramatic. The whole leach scene is disgusting.

I don't see it as a war story that much. There were a couple of scenes with the Germans as the bad guys but Indian Jones and the Allen Quartermain movies were more war movies than this. I saw it as a Romantic Adventure with heavy doses of comedy.
