So, I will be living out of a 5th wheel for the next month due a job assignment. The grandparents had a 25' compact 5th wheel they will let me use to save some money.

Few questions:

They RV park supplies cable and internet. How does this work, will i need to bring a router to hook up for the internet? Or will there be some sort of jack that i need to run to?

Also, my grandfather wants to tow it out there for me but i think he is getting too old to do all that. How much can i get a 5th wheel hitch put in for and can i get one that can be easily removed/replaced for easy use?

Any tips for things to buy would be nice also. I plan on buying a new grill for the month and a TV as they don't have one in there. Also plan on getting an Apple TV or something along those lines to watch netfilx and all that good stuff.

Thanks for the help.

Park internet will probably be wi-fi.There is a fifth wheel hitch that is easily removable, for your pick up, probably pricey though. check prices online.

Just called, each trailer has it's own cable/internet. This probably means I need to bring a router huh?

What line of work are you in? Pretty awesome the grand parents are letting you use their stabbin cabin.

Hitch is probably around $750 and maybe $250 for the install. The hitch itself can come off, but the rails typically stay because they go through the bed. You are also gonna need a harness hooked up, and that'll be another $250. I'd say budget for around $1500 so you won't be surprised by anything.

If you have an Android phone, root and wifi tether 4G. Get a $15 rabbit ear antenna for the TV to get local channels

*If you've never towed a 5th wheel, let your grandpa do it for you. It's harder than a regular trailer

Hmm, glad you said this. The old man had said that and I sort of just wrote it off thinking it can't be too bad. What makes it more difficult?

Backing it up

Eta: If you can back up a small regular trailer pretty quickly using only your side mirrors, you'll be able to pick it up somewhat quickly. I still wouldn't advise it

There is a pretty big learning curve on a 5th wheel... you have to be really careful backing up and turning sharp, especially with a short wheelbase, or you WILL crush your cab. Back it off in a ditch... and crush your bed. You also need to make damn sure the hitch is engaged correctly... or it WILL come loose.

As for the hitch... mine was around $2000 installed. It does come out but that f'r is heavy.

Oh one other thing... all RV's from the cheapest bumper pull to the largest custom bus are all huge pieces of shite liable to break down at any time.

1100 for hitch and install. Get one that you can flip the ball downward to hide it and make it flush with your bed. I don't suggest towing the trailer for your first time. Praxtice first

You're talking about a gooseneck, not a 5th wheel. Whole different deal

Bring your router you will need it. Also, the internet will probably be slow as shite.

Do all of your cooking outside.
Small Coleman stove is nice.
A decent toaster oven.
a fan
Nice folding reclining chair to sit outside at night.

It's not all that difficult. Just gotta be a little more cautious... My brother pulled one all over creation during his summer job for a couple years during his first couple years of college. If he could do it back then, then a guy with a moderate amount of common sense can handle the job.

Don't most trailers have built in levels now?

5th wheels aren't that hard to back up. It just depends on the length of the trailer. It's way easier to back a longer trailer than it is a shorter trailer. Watch out at the fuel pump and make sure you can get out of wherever you pull in. If all else fails ask someone at the park to back it in for you. I've done it for many people (mostly women) at different parks, parking lots, etc.

As someone else said double check you're locked in. I've replaced many bedsides and even more tailgates for people with 5th wheels.
