I have a ferrule/ nut on a 5/8" copper ferrule water line that I can't get to stop leaking...have hit it with sandpaper and tightened it as tight as I am comfortable with. Anyone have a trick to get it to seal? Anyone tried wrapping with Teflon tape before tightening the nut?

Dry it off and put pipe dope on it.

If you've over tightened it the compression nut will never seal and you will have to cut off some slack and use a new ferrul.

Thanks....I hadn't even thought about trying pipe dope. Hope I haven't screwed up the ferrule, as there is not much of a stub coming out of the wall to use!

Worst case u can cut it off and get a compression coupling and an extension piece.

The pipe dope worked like a charm...saved me the cost of a holiday call for a plumber, too!

Thanks to those with suggestions
