Quite an interesting fishery. Salmon were introduced here thirty years ago I think and they've done well. Now Lake Michigan has a pretty decent coho and king salmon fishery not to mention lake trout. Lots of charters in Chicago, where, it's not a well known fact that you can catch king salmon from both boat and shore. Yes, very late summer and early Fall, from the shoreline of Chicago beneath the shadows of some of America's tallest buildings, you can catch salmon.

I've gone a couple of times, caught a few. Grew up in New Orleans and love trout, snapper, flounder, dolphin, and wahoo. But there's something altogether different about salmon. So much more versatile and seems to always taste great, no matter how you cook it. I'm looking forward to another great salmon season this summer, and want to encourage those who are visiting Chicago June to October to give a charter a shot if you want a crack at multiple salmon. It was a bucket list fish for me a couple of years ago, and probably for some of you. Lot cheaper and easier than going to Alaska.

Pretty sure the limit here is 5 trout/salmon combo per person. Oh, western Michigan's Lake Michigan coast is even better for salmon. Catch a big one in the Fall loaded with eggs and you and you can prepare some of this:

Take that back, just was reading a Chicago fishing forum and they're catching plenty of cohos from the shoreline right now.

One of the great things about fishing in new places is learning techniques that may or may not translate well to other places.

An example of this is called "power lining" here. Power lining is a technique used by people fishing on the shoreline. They get a metal pipe and then use CO2 to shoot the line out. Sort of like a canon. Here's how it's done: LINK

Any shoreline fishers in Louisiana think this would be worth doing? Maybe if you're fishing Pontchartrain or maybe Grand Isle and you don't feel like wading.

Wouldn't have thought of Chicago being a fishing destination. Pretty cool.

this is really cool. Never knew there was salmon fishing to be done in meeechigan. If someone at the bait store would've told me this I'd of thought he was FOS.

Went yesterday to celebrate Easter after church. Caught two nice cohos, between five and ten pounds from the shore near the Montrose Harbor. First time I've ever tried shore fishing here. And boy did they taste good.

Alaska got nothing on Chicago!
