FSU stands to lose $160 MILLION in annual funding - Jameis Winston case.

Saw a small thread on this couple days ago but not with these details, hence new thread. (Sorry if you no like me).
Watched a bit on CNN last night about this. The feds (financial not criminal) that oversee funding via Title IX are opening their own investigation on Jameis AND the Tallahasse PD's handling of the case. CNN said they dont 'think' this fed agency can bring criminal charges, but they have the absolute authority to pull the $160,000,000 per year funding that FSU gets..
In a nutshell, FSU and the TPD may have violated federal laws under Title IX in their handling of the case and the alleged victim's rights. Lets see if FSU backs their boy now... (I've no idea if he did it or not, but shite just got real for the University)

How would title IX have anything to do with it?

Sexual harassment and violence are considered forms of sex discrimination under the 1972 federal law, which requires colleges and universities that receive federal funds to investigate claims of sexual assault and provide a timely and impartial grievance procedure to resolve those claims. Non-compliance with the law can result in the department revoking federal funding,

I doubt they'd revoke the entire $160 million but nevertheless

Who is giving the 160M that they stand to lose?
Please tell me this is federal funding.

Don't they already struggle with money?

Is this a good use of 160M tax payers' dollars?
And we wonder why we are trillions of dollars in debt.

Yeah, I would assume Federal funds since it stems from the OCR (Office of Civil Rights, executive agency probably under the justice department umbrella headed by Eric Holder).

On the whole, yes. Having strong higher education helps the GDP of the States and then the Nation as a whole.
It's basic economics.

Agreed, but the OCR has been pretty powerful under him.

Department of Education. And they aren't going to lose their federal funding. There are lots of schools under investigation currently for not properly handling sexual assault cases.

It's definitely a chicken little type article.
But this could open the case up to more potential evidence being released.

It's the office of civil rights in the department of education, not the department of justice. They can refer it to the DOJ in especially egregious cases, but that's highly unlikely. If you read some of the articles, usually they just make the school update its policies.

Thanks for setting me straight.
Doesn't look like this is much of anything.
