So I have an opportunity to go shred the gnar in either the French/Swiss Alps or Japan next New Years.

While the Alps speak for themselves, I have never heard of Japan skiing but from what I've researched it looks pretty great.

Anybody ever done this? If so, do you have any recommendations?

TIA

They've had the Winter Olympics there twice, so obviously there's sking to be had.

Yeah I'm saying that Cham is better than anything you'd find in japan so you already know where to go

Japan has INCREDIBLE skiing, and I've skied all Park City resorts, all over Colorado, Big Sky, and St Anton in Austria. If you're looking for powder, the only thing that touches St Anton is Japan.

Niseko is gonna be the closest to something like Park City/Breck where you've got a lot of everything, versatility for everyone.

If you are a hardcore skier who wants nothing but the best snow and off-piste, I've never been anywhere in the world that compares to Asahidake.

This is where we were looking to go. I heard their powder and tree runs are unreal.

How was the rest of the resort? Did they have good nightlife or other shite to do.

If you really want to hit the trees and powder, checkout the cat skiing. You will find pristine snow and incredible bowls. It is a must for a day if you can afford it.

Really good night life. Niseko is getting really popular and it will be mobbed come NYE. If you're looking for somewhere with a lot of people to go out with, Niseko will definitley fit that bill.

The Japanese know how to party.

Check out the Warren Miller video(s) with Japanese skiing. I'm not sure about their steeps, but the trees look incredible.

From what I've gathered

Alps> Japan for cliffs

But Japan>Alps for powder and tree runs.

Johnny Mosely has a tough job. I've always wondered if I lived in the Mountains instead of Shreveport, LA would I ever get burned out? However, if you're Mosely and not only getting to ski every world class an untouched mountain imaginable the journey alone is simply incredible.
