Question About Selling on Amazon

I've sold a few things through Amazon and eBay that have gone pretty smoothly. I'm waiting for that one shithead out there, though, who tries to claim he never received a package. Do you typically buy insurance or send certified mail when shipping an order? Seems like it would kill any profit on smaller items.
I'm shipping a $90 textbook tomorrow and trying to figure out what I need to do.

Buy the 80 cent tracking code so that both you and the buyer know where the package is. I've sold textbooks that way and never had someone complain.

I sell a crapload of stuff on eBay. About $3-4K worth per month lately and I do a little on Amazon. The best advice I will tell you is don't be cheap with adding tracking information as it could save you lots of headaches. If the value of the item is more than the default coverage that the shipping service offers then you better pay for the insurance to cover it.
Also, FedEX smartpost is going to be the best value. Cheaper than the USPS and UPS even though 90% of the time they just drop the shite off to the USPS to deliver.
ETA: This was my March totals for eBay
Not too bad. Most of it is stuff I buy just to flip.

Do you sell your own personal stuff or do you buy things with the intention to resell? Just curious

Damn... what kind of stuff do you sell? (generally speaking?)

I buy stuff to resell here and there. Some PC parts I fool around with and repair but mostly I have accounts set up with some dropshippers and distributors where I order inventory. I have a few niche items I have found that I do really well with. Just started hitting it hard about 3 months ago and am building it up every month. I haven't taken any money out of it and all of my profit goes to new inventory.

There are few things I hate more than Fedex SmartPost and the UPS equivalent. They are several days slower than just using USPS.

I've sold many millions of dollars via Amazon and I've never once had that happen. That's with thousands of sales.
Wouldn't worry about it.
Generally with Amazon, if shite goes wrong, they take care of it then you get charged for it. But it's rare.

I have found it to be about the same. Haven't had any complaints.

I have had packages never arrive to the buyers when using Amazons shipping service and Amazon refunded the buyer but told me I did nothing wrong and let me keep the money. They are much more seller friendly in that regard than eBay but some of their fees on certain items kills me.

Nice! I've always wanted to do something like that, just haven't had the time lately

Is that what you do for a living?

I know its probably not near the same cost but about to hire out in South TN to build just the shell of the home. I can do most stuff in a home but know my limits and I dont know much about framing. Thanks man.

Yes. It was about 70% for the last thirteen years or so. I've integrated with Amazon at every level you can possibly do it at this point.

Yeah that's not the norm by any stretch of the imagination. What happened there is they found out where the loss happened and it wasn't you. If they don't find out where it happened....
It was you.
