$302.50
It depends on what your roth was invested in. Was it a money market like account. Bonds. One stock. Like a mutual fund. Aggressive small cap????

If it was in a conservative fund that roughly followed the S&P you would have like $600.

I opened a roth back in college with my tax refund and completely forgot about it. (i may or may not have been drinking a lot then).
Anyway, Ive got a retirement fund through my old job I need to roll over into something because I dont work there anymore and I remembered my roth.
I called and found out the balance was $306

What the frick did you invest in?
Either way, I'd imagine the quarterly fees are what ate up any gains. You were prob paying $15 a quarter to the fund managers.

I was young and stupid back then and knew nothing about what to invest in. I actually did nothing and didn't know I could chose my investments.
Anyway I need to roll this roth and my other fund into something different. My roth is with Hr block and I want to move it elsewhere.

Sounds like you've wasted 11 years in a money market.
If you have 5-10 years... look into ETF symbols AOM or AOR and read about them from the iShares website.

im pretty sure that is exactly what happened. needless to say I will be looking to move both accounts to something new and will be doing my research for a while. my work retirement money isnt able to be removed from the current position until next year.

What company is your account with?

The 300 is with hr block. The larger one is a profit sharing plan from my former employer through Merrill lynch

Well get it to a broker where you can self direct the investments and purchase a diversified ETF or several of them. If you need advice there are fairly inexpensive options through Fidelity, Merrill Edge, etc...
Whatever the case.. just start contributing to that baby.

Simply sticking it in an S&P 500 index fund would've more than doubled your money. I can't imagine what you had it in to collect such a tiny return.
