How was Phil able to manipulate his way into training on how to perfect back surgery? Did he magically deceive a whole OR team into thinking he was the new chief surgeon? And how many hours would that take? I'm assuming a let
less than perfecting the piano.

Perhaps he read some books and then learned through trial and error. If he messed up the surgery, he was going to get another chance.

And he didn't have to worry about legal consequences of trial and error because of the daily reset.

Do we know how long he was stuck in the loop?

That's plenty of time to learn to perform surgery knowing there are no consequences to screwing it up.

This may sound dumb, but one of my favorite things when they play Groundhog Day is how they play the exact same commercial twice, back to back.

It always cracked me up.

Groundhog Day is one of those movies whose esteem grows with each passing year. I recall lukewarm reviews upon its opening... but now it's hailed as genius... rightfully so.

It immediately became one of my top 5 favorite movies the first time I watched it and still is.

For sure. I very rarely ever watch a movie twice but I have seen this one about 4 or 5 times.

This is a great film because it works on so many levels.

The Buddhist philosophy of existence is one of the Soul reincarnating itself many times before it reaches Spiritual Perfection.

The film is a metaphor for this process. Phil's lives life over and over until he evolves as a Soul to a state of Perfection, then, he is allowed out of the loop of Reincarnation.

Buddhists believe that we will be Reincarnated again and again and again until we achieve a Spiritual Perfection, and are thus released from the same loop that trapped Phil for so long.

The film's message may just be this: We are ALL like Phil. We will be reincarnated over and over again until we finally "get it right" spiritually and finally escape from the loop.
