Had a yahoo on public land come playing a box call like a fiddle at a turkey I was watching breed his last hen of the morning. Turkey spooked as he tripped and fell on something. I was about 150 yds away watching the whole thing. Don't ask me what I'm about to do.

I have been very blessed so far this season, and again today.

Been limited out for a while now and just going when I can find a kid to take or go and film. Called up 7 yesterday at different times, all on film. This am had to be at work for 9, set up and called in a gobbler and 2 hens, had them in front of me on video for about 30 minutes, filmed him breeding the hens, and everything it was a great morning.

Now I guess I am a porn filmer

Hat and tenfoe, update?

Headed to a conference in this evening and thinking about detouring to the lease. Pretty day out here

My update.

Was waiting one out. He had hens. They had almost all left him and he was about an hour from him being killable when captain dickhead came trying to sneak up on the turkey and spooked them. Ended up going somewhere else later and calling up another turkey. Was pulling the trigger when I realized was a jake. Super jake. Super gobble. Big bird, but young. Was tough not to shoot him after the disaster of a morning. Nevertheless, left him and found another gobbler in a clearcut around 1:00 in the wind. Odds were against me, but ended up doing a coyote sneak and killing him.

As for the guy who fricked me earlier, he may have rode in on a bike, but he walked back (3 miles or so). I brought his bike back to his truck for him, and left a note on the proper way to wait a turkey out when he's with hens this time of year.

Best advice I've seen on here in a while. Patience is the key to killing a bird at fly down right now. In a couple of weeks though is when it really gets fun!

Yep. When I've taken off work, left my house at 2:30, and drove 100 miles, just to walk 3-4 more, sitting around for a couple hours waiting is just part of it. I've killed a bunch of turkeys, and 75% of them have come after 10am.

I've found most hunts after 10 or 11 are flash hunts here in Tennessee. If he gobbles twice, you can turn your safety off.

Yep. If that mfer gobbles after 10 and I hear him, that's a dead bird walking.

I need to put more time in mid day.

I'm learning more and more every hunt.

I have never been able to understand people that don't hunt all day. I understand getting drunk at night around a fire with friends at the camp, but during daylight hours I have never been able to not hunt all day long. I may move spots 3-4 times a day during deer season, or travel between 3 different properties turkey hunting, but unless I have somewhere important to be I stay in the woods all day. During the middle of the day the critters are doing something. You just have to figure out what it is.

Scariest hunt of my life this afternoon.. Was calling for my buddy today. Working my slate call and I hear something to my right and look over and its a coyote jumping at me.
Somehow I got my foot up to block it from hitting me and the thing took off.. I thought I was toast when I saw it in the air.

Had a yote 5 yards from me yesterday. He was cruising a fence line and snuck up on me I saw him before he saw me but he spooked when I moved to get my gun on him. Lucky bastard
