WBB finishes #24, but 2-9 vs top 25, glass half full or half empty?

So was our WBB season a success? Not an easy answer here,

good- sweet 16, no "bad" out of conf losses, beat all in state teams, got lots of player lots of minutes, 9 deep, beat TN

bad- worst losing streak in 20+ years at end of season and in SEC, 10th seed in SEC trny, 5th in SEC in final top 25, 3 senior starters now gone, chemistry issues apparent, losing record in SEC

so all in all I give the overall season a C+,others?

I wish we could actually contend in the SEC.

was a weird season, suck it up at end but still make sweet 16, tourney finish says it should have felt like an awesome season, but it wasn't

a losing record in the SEC is never acceptable for LSUWBB. Caldwell is certainly a better HC that Van Chancellor was. But she has yet to show us what POkey and Bob Starkey showed in their run.

I mostly worry about the end of the season so it was at least a B.

Turnover in talent is not consistant. They lose all the big girls and no commitments from any big girls in recruiting. The Kelani Brown girl will be a big recruit in 2015 if she can get her and I hear that baylor or La Tech may be ahead there. There has to be a JR college girl somewhere who can play because Youngblood may not be here next year.

Nikki Caldwell is not recruiting for reason:

a) She is not working hard enough;
b) she is getting killed by regional recruiters for obvious reasons and families are not buying her "glam package," vs her baggage;
c) could it be she is not trusted by recruits?

I don't pretend to have the answer, but she has been unimpressive at best, unless you give her credit for her expensive and vast array of fashion and shoes...or are shoes included in fashionista fare?

We are not getting 1M worth of coaching and I predict she'll coast til she is fired...

Yeah we have a nice basketball practice facility and are a top 15 program all time, yet she couldn't sign anyone ranked in the top 100. I was okay with this season's performance considering the locker room issues, but that's a pretty pathetic recruiting effort.

Should be interesting to see if she can land that top recruit in LA next season. All I know is that her dad is a former La Tech basketball player, so I'd imagine Kim Mulkey is going to work that angle pretty hard.

Brown's mother is also her assistant high school coach at Salment and is also a Tech graduate. You got to think Little Summitt is going to make that hire.

That right there is complete and utter BS.
1) How do YOU know she's not working hard enough?
2) What are the "obvious" reasons? That LSU is the flagship school of the state of Louisiana? And what "baggage" does she have that YOU are privy to?
3) Not "trusted" by recruits? Why would recruits not "trust" her compared to any of the other power programs in the region? She's only been here three seasons.

Now, I agree that the recruiting is not nearly as good as she did at UCLA.........which is disappointing. But it may just have to do with relationship building moreso than the "ghost reasons" that mistert is trying to insinuate.

I'd give this season anywhere in the range of a C+ to a B-. It started off as an A- or B+ but, the losing streak in the middle of the season, took it down and then, the finish to the season brought it slight back up.

But certainly recruiting is the biggest worry we have for the program moving forward.

I don't understand how she can't bring in good classes at LSU. LSU WBB is much more attractive than UCLA WBB. Although she had plenty of talent in Cali, there wasn't much in state this year but she has done a very shitty job with this recruiting class. When she has talent, she has proven she can create very competitive teams. We're lacking players. Unless we start bringing in those top players I just don't see how LSU will be competitive. Next year is very concerning, lack of depth. Players unproven will be stepping in. Hopefully Rhodes can step up offensively, other than Ballard and Harden. I just don't know where the offense will come from. Pedersen just isn't an SEC player. Hill Is OK but really doesn't bring much. I'm afraid we will be exploited if we are one dimensional with Ballard. I'm really hoping Caldwell proves me wrong.

And from sources, apparently there isn't anyone left on the board for spring recruiting. Hopefully things change quickly

His continual references to Nikki's wardrobe is really weird.

Pretty positive he is the infamous TNNT. There is some batshit crazy guy who always comments via facebook on the lsusports articles and I swear it's TNNT. The most pessimistic human being I can think of.

Tigerbait I agree.
Although, I think we will have one of the best guard rotations in the SEC with Ballard, a healthy Moncrief, and Harden. But its the frontcourt that is most concerning. I think we can still be a good team with what we have coming back. I don't, however, think we can be a GREAT team. We need more big, athletic bodies in the paint.

Yeah it's him. He used to talk himself in the Advocate feedback section but he's moved to LSUSports.

The talent level of the team next year is a major concern, guard play should be good, post players are a HUGE question mark. We definitely will be a more athletic team this coming year. I think this year will tell us if her system will work. No doubt she has her work cut out this off season
