What if Washington only got 10% of the tax money the currently got and the rest went to the States? States would be responsible for carrying out federal mandates using their own citizen's tax money.

Would this be an upgrade over the system we have now?

What if all the money that went to the states went to the Fed? Turn it around

No. Federal mandates are blanket programs that ignore local needs.

You would have to eliminate the federal mandates and allow the states to determine how best to spend the revenue.

The opposite should be true. Take the Federal money and let the fed spread it around instead of petty state politicians porking it up. But make it mandatory that only spend it on what it is supposed to. and make sure it is done right

The federal govt? They've shown absolutely no ability to do this.

I think the issue most would take is that the feds don't seem to be doing a great job with the money we're providing them. What the hell did they do with nearly a trillion dollars in stimulus money?

Are there crooks at the state level? Damn right there are but they're easier to vote out of office then a dishonest congressman.

No matter how much I dislike Nancy Pelosi or Alan Grayson I can't vote them out of office.

Some of the states have done it far better than the fed. DC is a money pit for the good ole boys club.

This is kind of my point. Having all the money flow into one single place has really bred a lot of corruption. My hypothesis is that if the money were closer to the taxpayers, there would be more accountability for how it is used.

Ideally we'd all pay less taxes and force the federal government to only spend our dollars on necessities.

Anything that involves my tax dollars going into federal hands is a terrible thing.

I'm all about paying taxes as they are necessary for certain amenities, however we don't need to be paying half of what we pay for what we actually need.

ETA: Why not make the State the top of the pyramid? They can dole out money to the parishes, who then dole out to the cities/towns.

Why even have the federal government in the equation at all? They have proven themselves inept at EVERYTHING they have their hands in.

It's impossible if you let the Insurance Companies run everything, of course.

This is impossible. Lets use some math:

Liberal math:
My healthcare costs = x
My neighbor's healthcare costs = y
My tax to pay for healthcare = tx
My neighbor's tax to pay for healthcare = yx

x = tx
y > yx

tx + yx + Obama's stash = x+y

Real math
My healthcare costs = x
My neighbor's healthcare costs = y
My tax to pay for healthcare = tx
My neighbor's tax to pay for healthcare = yx
Money borrowed from China = ch
Money printed = p
Money lost in beaurocracy = b

x = tx
y > yx

tx + yx + ch + p = x + y + b

UHC is a few people paying for the rest. Most get more, a few get much, much less. The beltway gets fatter.

So the answer is to give less money to both the federal and state governments.

I agree.
