Hypothetical Regarding Maradona

Many consider Diego Maradona to be the best player of all time, in large part thanks to his performance in the 1986 World Cup.

However, what happens if Maradona is caught trying to score with his hand against England in the Quarterfinals and sent off (again, this is a hypothetical). He finishes the tournament with one goal and Argentina is eliminated in the Quarterfinals. In this scenario, how do we remember Maradona today? Does he even sniff the discussion for greatest ever?

Zidane is top 5, no question. I think the best ever might be playing right now.

King. Landon. Donovan.

I think he is saying that he would be remembered like Zidane. I disagree. From a career perspective, Zidane already had one WC. Zidane had a much better career than Maradona, and that French team was much better than that Argentina team.

Would Maradona be thought of as the best player in the world, or one of the best, if he had been sent off in 86, especially as that England team was a really good squad, and could have won it all, especially as English teams had just won a bunch of European cups in a row and their style was at their apex.

Maradona is a big fat smelly dingleberry that hangs from Zidane's nut sack.

In this scenario, I don't think anyone (except maybe a few Napoli fans) would consider Maradona the greatest ever.

And that's the point I'm trying to make. He may well have had the greatest tournament ever, but he's not the greatest ever.

The league championships are obviously impressive, but I stand by my point. Without the 1986 run, he's not considered the best ever.

That´s your prerogative. No big deal.

It´s a documentary (which I had never seen). I thought some may like to see it.

I probably would, but I think my laptop would melt if I streamed video for that long.
