don't know what the general consensus is on this board, but IMO they brought the heat. had no idea they were in town tonight 'til a friend called me & informed me, and we ended up driving to the venue at the last second...turns out there were 20 tickets left, so we managed to get in. couldn't tell you the names of any of their songs, but they did play zeppelin's "fool in the rain", toto's "africa", motley crue's "dr. feelgood", and a jam to the rhythm of MJ's "wanna be starting something". living where i live, for once, it's nice to only have to drive 5 minutes to a show, as opposed to the usual 2-3 hours. i definitely felt old 'tho....lots of hot chicks, but the majority were probably half my age (i'm 46, lol).....
edit: i realize i spelled the band's name wrong....forgive me, i had a few cold ones while i was there

Sorry, they haven't received the Heady jamband seal of approval, therefore they suck and you are an idiot.

lol....i've been to 30 phish shows dating back to 1995, so i'll take my chances

Great band. Love those guys' chemistry and stage presence. Extremely academy though, almost to the point of confusing on a lot of jams. Not my first choice of a show, but I have mad respect for the level they're at.

they get a lot of shite on here but I love them. Can't wait to see them in New Orleans on the 17th.
They used to come around Birmingham a ton around 05 and 06, so I saw them a lot back then but hadn't seen them in probably six or so years until last summer and they were awesome.

Really not a fan at all. Sure, they shred and all but it lacks soul and just sounds artificial.
Their choice of covers is one of their few redeeming qualities.
I saw them 3 times. It is funny how their fanbase keeps insisting that they are going to "blow up" yet here they are playing the same rooms they did 8 years ago.

Did they play that song that is technically impressive but boring and impossible to dance to?
oh wait...
oh wait...

I kind of like Mulche's Odyssey

Very hit or miss with me. Have some songs I love, and some stuff that makes me cringe. I think they would be better served to lose Cininger.

Kind of my thoughts exactly.

doesn't bother me one way or the other. i've paid stupid money to go to shows, only to be a half a mile away from the band....it was actually nice to be only a few feet away from the stage, without making the equivalent of a rent payment for the opportunity.

until last night, it was the first time they played here since 2002. if my buddy didn't call me up & tell me they were in town, i'd have been none the wiser. they said the show was sold out online, and when we called the venue, the lady we talked to said it was sold out too....glad we decided to go anyway, 'cuz they ended up releasing a handful of extras.

That is one thing I respect about UM. They really treat their fans well by being road warriors and charging very fair prices. I just really can't get into it at all. Even if I had free tickets I doubt I'd go.

Love UM You're all pretty spot on in your critiques of them, but I enjoy their style and the entertainment is definitely worth the price of admission.

I am always happy to see them on festival lists too, hoping for lockn to add them.
I don't know if they have put any cd's out recently but I like their old stuff and as mentioned before they pick excellent covers and the mash ups they do are actually pretty amazing.

I think they either just put out a new one, or are going to soon.
Anchor Drops = great
Mantis = pure crap
The Papa Can Change A Rolling Stone is awesome

I'm not sure if I know about Mantis, they came around bham a lot in the early 2000's and I saw them play with disco biscuits in atlanta sometime around the 05-07. Hadn't seen them or heard anything new of theirs until a couple years ago when I saw them play in atlanta again.
ETA: Anchor Drops was awesome.
They did exodus mashed up with Life During Wartime last time I saw them (I think it was those two). It was pretty legit.
