I'm checking out a podcast that I've heard of but just now checked out today while slaving away in the yard called Radiolab. It is NPR based.
They had a Speed themed podcast in early Feb 2013 and there was a story about computers and the market.
It was fascinating. Did a search and didn't see where it was discussed here.
Recommend.

It is the Feb 5, 2013 ep called Speed. It is the middle story.
It does not have any editorial slant as to whether the computers are good or bad, it just goes through the details of the arms race that has gone on for years in which different entities have done all sorts of things to try and have their computers be milliseconds faster than others.
It's good stuff.
