Strictly fwiw, fyi, etc.

quote:

New Orleans Saints

Top needs: CB, OLB, WR

Round 1 (27) OLB Dee Ford, Auburn
Round 2 (58) WR Davante Adams, Fresno St.
Round 3 (91) CB Kendall James, Maine

Analysis: The growth of Cameron Jordan at defensive end and solid play of rookie Kenny Vaccaro helped the defense take a big step forward last season -- Rob Ryan's presence was obviously a huge aspect to the improvement -- but I want to add an edge-rusher to the mix at outside linebacker, where depth is lacking. In Round 2, Adams is a steal. Kenny Stills was a solid addition to the passing game out of last year's draft, but Marques Colston is now 30 and Adams represents needed depth. Currently, Corey White and Keenan Lewis are the top two corners on the roster, so I'll take a shot on James, one of the top sleepers in the draft.

I understand we need to add OLB depth but why does everyone seemingly overlook Junior and his 12 sacks?

ETA: I wouldn't mind this draft at all.

Everyone is, but you know the coaching staff isn't.

So unless the hands down best value is a DE/OLB at 27, I think all these "draft experts" will be wrong with who we end up selecting.

Heck, when you get to pick 20-32, it's almost impossible to get them right.

I think it's Victor Butler they might be overlooking since he was out all last year. Plus, Butler only has one year left on his contract and is coming off a major knee injury. I agree with you, though, that this isn't our #1 priority.

There's nothing wrong with that at all. Ford is going to be a player in this league.

I hate that Kiper continuously mocks Ford to us. I'm not at all interested in him.

we have room to add a pass rusher. No one is forgetting Galette.

I could live with the selection. A better pass rush automatically makes your coverage better.

I want another OLB because we only have Victor Butler for one more year and grooming someone as a replacement makes sense. I am not a fan of Dee Ford in the first however. I would rather try to get Jeremiah Attaochu or Kyle Van Noy in the 2nd.

Because Galette is more of a 4-3 Hand in the dirt DE. Ryan had to run more 4-3 alignments with the lack of OLB depth.. Drafting a 3-4 OLB will allow Ryan to go back to his own base defense

Ford is a 4-3 DE too.. he has played 4-3 DE for his whole life.. The fact that he says he can play a 3-4 OLB means nothing. Round peg, square hole.

I wouldn't mind an OLB early, I'm just not big on Dee Ford. The only real glaring hole on the roster right now is Center, so any other position drafted will pretty much be for depth. One exception I could see though is if Mosley falls to 27.

Let's be honest, none of the so called experts know what's going to happen...it's crap shoot for everyone, even them.

As mocks go, Kiper is usually the most accurate. Again, that's not saying much.

Auburn ran the same 4-2-5 D that Ryan seems to love. It wont hurt to add another versatile pass rusher to the DL

We ran a 4-2-5 because we had no depth at OLB and our MLBs cannot pass cover.

In regards to mock drafts, I was curious and looked up 2013's draft. Bleacher Report put out a "100% Guaranteed" mock draft like a day or two before the real draft.

They got every single pick wrong. It was quite hilarious.
