I put Amsoil synthetic into the wife's Highlander, switching from Mobil 1. I sent off oil samples to Blackstone for the old Mobil 1 at 5K and Amsoil at 5K, still waiting on the results. I plan on testing the Amsoil every 5K until I see the numbers falling off.

Has anyone stretched Amsoil to the 25K mark? It's kind of nerve racking after growing up with the 3k oil change motto.

That 3,000 mile thing is hogwash. With Synthetic you can go for longer periods without an oil change. 25,000 miles however is a bit much, especially living in the South.

I haven't but I hope they have a pretty solid warranty if they say it lasts 25k and your engine overheats and fries some piston rings.

I personally don't push synthetic passed 10k.

But ya that 3k change is a bunch of crap unless you like throwing away barely used oil

You have to remember running a car in the south especially in higher temps can affect things as well. 15,000 would be pushing it in my book. 25,000 is crazy

If you're not a petroleum engineer, you must have a lot of free time on your hands.

They do warranty the product. If the oil breaks down within that time-frame, and engine failure results from their product, they cover the costs. Of course there are stipulations. Anyway, I'll keep it updated and scan in the oil analysis every 5k.

Why? It takes maybe 5 minutes every 5K. I just find things like this interesting.

If they do warranty it for 25,000 and you do get engine damage they will just find some cop out to claim the oil was not what caused the issue.

Unless you plan on keeping the car until 150-250k miles and the wheels are starting to fall off it doesn't really matter what oil your using. Assuming you do change it on the reg. Most people get tired of the car and trade it before there is any type of oil related engine problems.

Maybe so. Either way, the numbers will tell me when it's starting to break down. I won't run it past that point.

It's an '05 with 130k. It's not going anywhere. Paid off and reliable. My wife is awesome on that front, doesn't really care what car she drives. She's had it since her senior year in high school.

I am a cheap bastard, but I'm not doing this for the money saving benefits. It's just an experimental type thing. I just like to see science in action.

I'm in the same boat. 06 F150 with 125k and don't plan on trading anytime soon. Keep doing what your doing and go for 300K.

Yep, until big shite starts breaking, it's financial sabotage to get rid of it. We did buy a VW Jetta diesel 3 days ago, but got it 5k under book and paid half down. I plan on driving it into the ground.

I had an 01 jeep grand Cherokee that I put 237,000 miles on. Traded it in a month ago. It still ran like a champ. The only thing I had to fix was the radiator(replaced it). I plan on doing the same with the new vehicle.

Really wish I wasnt a tinkerer...

Just broke 200k... have replaced

Engine, belts, hoses, waterpump, radiator, condensor, ac compressor, battery, fuel pump, fuel filter, horns, struts, tie rods inner and outer, calipers, cylinders. Shocks, wheel studs, dryer, interior fan, condensor fan, and the usual filters and such.

Only two things were actually not functioning, the engine was not one of them.

I HAVE to tinker.

Have you ever noticed how heavy an empty oil weighs? That's dirt, and that's after 5K miles! The synthetic oil may still be good but the filter isn't doing the job.

I agree with the filter. Most synthetics are rated for higher mileage but the filter cannot handle that many miles. There might be "25,000" oil but you'll never see 25,000 mile oil filter.
