Going to Hawaii for a family wedding in September. Would like to go charter fishing, and tour the island. Will be there for 7 days. Anyone have any resort recommendations near southwest Oahu and things to do.

Pineapple whip at the Dole plantation.....soooooo good

LOST tour(if you loved the show)
Hike Diamondhead(really not a difficult hike at all, just lots of stairs....amazing views at the top)
Snorkeling with dolphins and sea turtles ....company takes you out on their boat to areas there are lots of dolphins and turtles. There were like 10 dolphins 5 feet from me...pretty cool

PCC(Polynesian Cultural Center)....no alcohol there but the night fire show is awesome

The sunset booze cruises are fun though. Cheap too. Like $40 and you go out in a boat near sunset and see amazing views while drinking all the drinks you want.

If you go to Pearl Harbor.....get tickets early in the day for the ferry to USS Arizona memorial.

We got there too late so didn't get to go on the ferry. I could see the memorial from the main site, and the museum at the site is amazing.....but still not the same thing.

But yeah....you aren't a true American if you don't visit Pearl Harbor while in Oahu

We have cousins that live around North Shore. Went stay up with them for a couple weeks. Forgetting Sarah Marshall was filmed at turtle bay. Go watching the surfing competitions if they are any. Go paddle boarding. Go check out doles plantation and eat the pineapple ice cream. the drive around is awesome to see the hundreds and hundreds of acres of pineapple fields.

Plus the one I went on included steak and lobster!

A few have been mentioned already but:

Pearl Harbor including USS Arizona Memorial and tour USS Missouri
Go on a tour of the island of Oahu which ours included a stop at the Dole Plantation for Dole Whip as someone had mentioned.
Hike up Diamond Head for some great views.
Do a Luau. We passed on the Polynesian Cultural Center luau because no alcohol. Did the Luau at Paradise Cove.
Sunset Dinner Cruise
Spend a day water activities snorkeling, jet skiing, etc.

Been to Hawaii a bunch, and The only cruise we took was full of Japanese tourists heaving up their beverages over the side. Of course theyre going line up on the Waikiki side, which essentially destroyed the view

Needless to say, we skipped the dinner segment

Food:

Steaks
Chucks cellar-downtown
Buzzs-pearl city not Kailua

Thai
Opals-northshore. Must try it. Worth the wait. Little hole in the wall where the owner cooks for you.

If you want to do a couple tough hikes, there is the Koko Head trail just past Diamondhead. Makes Diamondhead look like a baby.

There is also the Makapu'u light house hike which is all paved and pretty cool to see some stuff on the island. The drive is pretty intense and you pass Sandy Beach so you could do a few things there. You also pass the blowhole so you could always stop and take a look at that for a bit.

If you are looking for a great hike, try the Ko'olua loa ridge trail. It is about 3-4 hours and a beautiful trail with an amazing view at the end.

If your going to the north shore, check on the Kaena Point Trail on the far northwest side of the island. I've done that trail at least a dozen times and seen monk seals at the end everytime.

I've also gone shark diving a couple times up there. It is pretty awesome and you get to see all sorts of sharks and stuff swimming around. I highly recommend that.

I'm assuming you are staying in Waikiki or near it. I'm a big fan of Hanks Haute Dogs down there. Good stuff. Also, Uncles by the pier has some good food. There are a million good sushi places so make sure to hit up some sushi.

The Lost tour CP3 is talking about was pretty cool even if you don't like lost. They take you up in the Kualoa Ranch. A bunch of other movies and tv shows are filmed there on a pretty regular basis so it is kind of a movie tour.

Waikiki sucks, I hated it but the booze tours that leave around 5 on the Na Hoku II are awesome. Just make sure to sign up early as they do run out of space.

If you want some more advice, hit me up at jscrims@gmail.com. I lived there for 3 years so I do know some of the local stuff to do outside of the tourist crap.

This was the company we used for the snorkeling tour. Family company. They were awesome. Highly recommend them if you want to do a tour like that.

If you do go with them...they have a photographer taking pics the whole time. If you want pics of yourself on the boat...just ask them to take pics and they will. At the end of the tour you can buy a thumb drive with all the picks on it for like $30. Includes pics they took with underwater cameras that day of any dolphins, turtles, etc they see.

I went in January so the water visibility was not the greatest. But I did get to see whales also on that tour so that was cool.

As for the booze cruise...can't remember the company(this was Jan 2011 when I went). They were located on the beach in Waikiki...we literally walked up earlier in the afternoon and booked it. It was a smaller catamaran boat so not big enough to do dinner cruises.

The boat is called the Na Hoku II. It is a yellow boat with a red and white sail. They go out during the day too and do swimming trips and stuff. Just go up to the boat when you see it on shore and you will be able to find someone with a clipboard and sing up for the booze cruise.

Best booze cruise on the island. Anytime we had guests in town, we used this one. Some of our best sunsets are from the cruise.
