Developer Chris Shaheen says he is close to inking a deal with Sammy's Grill owner Sammy Nagem to develop a "sports bistro and patio bar" as a part of The Oasis, an entertainment-recreational complex he plans to create on a 6-acre plot at Burbank Drive and South Kenilworth.

quote:

"We are currently in negotiations with Sammy's," Shaheen confirms, noting the restaurant and bar will be a new concept and will not carry the Sammy's namesake brand. "We are hoping to have everything tied up within the next two weeks and are hoping to start construction sometime at the end of May." The 5,500-square-foot restaurant will open out onto a 10,000-square-foot, climate-controlled deck that will include "the largest outdoor TV screen ever," Shaheen says, adding that The Oasis will be big enough to host movie nights, video game tournaments and other such events. Phase one of construction will include the restaurant and bar, as well as an entertainment deck and five volleyball courts—all of which Shaheen estimates will cost $3 million.

The Oasis will also offer virtual golf, and there are 3 acres of outparcels along Burbank that Shaheen plans to sell or lease. "It's kind of endless what we can do with this facility," says Shaheen,

I read about this back in the summer of 2012. If I recall they were trying to have it ready for Fall 2013 but that obviously never happened. Will be interesting to see how this progresses and if this ends up being as cool as it sounds.

I know what he means, but those two roads do not touch.

They're doing SO frickING MUCH to Burbank lately. At least three subdivisions, some condos/apartments, and now this. Not to mention the still fairly new baseball fields.

Hah yea that didn't make sense. The land he is talking about is on Burbank across from Lakeside Bar.

I never knew that was the name of that road.

And it better be on the north side of Burbank, because almost everything south of it around Lakeside is marsh.

Guess he doesn't realize the potential. Mangos registration is a cluster now because of lack of courts/time. They could make volley in br a joint effort and create multiple leagues competing at both venues(like other sports do).

Not only that but back in 96, on pizza deliveries to S Kenilworth and then to Kenilworth, I would cut through that property on Burbank to come up behind Highland hardware. Then the SOBs locked that cattle gate.

Meh. I just made the volleyball comment because I play volleyball at Mango's. I didn't mean for that to be the focus of the thread.

I think this development has a lot of potential. Last time I drove by there, the land was cleared and dirt was being brought out there for the foundation. It looks to me like it's happening.

Also interested in the virtual golf. That could be awesome if done right.

And Sammy's is a damn strong restaurant to bring on board IMO (I know they will rebrand it but you get my point).

First off it didn't say beach volleyball. And if itbis, mangos 11 courts book uo for every night of the week even after adding two courts. There is room for spill over. It will hurt Laguna beach before mangos bcause right now that's who benefits from the spill over.

Initially reading this, I just thought it was a restaurant by the fields and I dismissed it because it would just be entire teams of kids and parents going eat.. but reading onward, the other stuff sounds cool.

Did they scratch the retail portion of this development? The original concept was going to have some select retail built in also

A smaller version of top golf would be badass
Basically build a grown up celebration station with golf, volleyball, food, bowling, maybe those high speed go carts, fields for ultimate frisbee lacrosse, frisbee golf, legit paintball
