Suggestions on simple video editing software

It can be Mac or PC based as I have a MacBook Air and a Dell laptop running Windows 7. What I want to do is take parts of go pro snowboarding footage and piece them together to make a highlight and low light video of this season. I also want to add some music to the video. Is this feasible for somebody with no background in this area?
