IberiaBank Corp. plans to lay off 97 workers at Teche Federal Bank’s corporate headquarters in New Iberia, according to documents filed Monday with the Louisiana Workforce Commission.

The layoffs at the Jefferson Terrace Boulevard location are the result of IberiaBank’s acquisition of Teche Holding Co., the holding company for Teche Federal. The layoffs are scheduled to take place in various departments in two two-week periods.

I agree.

I wonder how many of them believed it when they were told before the merger that no one's job would be affected?

In a small town like New Iberia, almost 100 white collar jobs lost hurts the economy.

I'd be surprised if Iberia even gave a hint of this sentiment. They have a track record of acquiring and slashing and this was a <$1B bank in their backyard with a ton of redundancy, including retail which normally represents the bulk of positions retained.

Sure it's sad for some, but these community banks are being regulated to the point of having to do something to survive. It's either acquire or be acquired for the foreseeable future.
