How do we get young people to sign up for Obamacare?

What if we just make the IRS penalty equivalent to the cost of the lowest cost plan available. It's a win-win as far as Obama is concerned: either the young people will be insured, or the government rakes in a lot more tax revenue.
Right now it appears to be more coast effective for young healthy people to just pay the penalty...
Of course, this will piss off a lot of fhe young people, but they knew they were gonna have to pony up, right?

Who is we? I don't think anyone should be forced by the government to buy a private product

I thought they were already handing out cash for signing up?

Fines.
I, like the Heritage Foundation, am all for the mandate.

This reminds me of the joke about The Lone Ranger and Tonto being surrounded by hostile Indians....
But in response to your query: You can't get blood out of a turnip. My son is a prime example. He's 29 and hasn't had a decent job at any point in his life.

Agreed. But we're already doing this. If the young don't do their part, either we will have to bail out the insurance companies OR the rest of us will have huge increases in our premiums.
If the young don't sign up because the current incentives aren't working, we need to either up the incentives or throw those kids in jail.

Free X-Boxes or Playstations, whatever.

Sadly I really feel this administration might actually turn to this.
Nothing with them surprises me anymore.

These are not the problem. The problem is the kids that don't have insurance at all. If we eliminate the 26 rule, well probably just end up with a lot more uninsured kids and I will continue to have higher rates.

" What should we do to get people to turn in their guns?" Oh wait, another bad idea!

I'd love to know the numbers in regards to how much annually is spent on healthcare for 18-35yr olds (The Target Group that they want) as opposed to other groups? 35-45, 45-55, 55-65, etc...
Why the frick should someone who doesn't need insurance be forced to subsidize those who do?

I would imagine it would depend on where you live. If the cheapest plan available to you costs $2000, then that's your answer. If you have to pay the 2 grand to Aetna and get insurance or pay the money to the Fed and get nothing, I'm guessing you'd go ahead an pay up.
To the person who thought throwing the kids in jail was ludicrous, just what do you think happens to people who refuse to pay the IRS?

Because it's the responsible thing to do. You don't need all that money. You didn't earn it anyway.

We should just call them racist for not signing up.

Ask not what you can do for you country, but what can the government do for you...
