International Business Times

Obama's failed foreign policy continues to open doors for more antagonism towards the U.S. by the world's authoritarian human rights haters. '

quote:

Iran has named a member of the group that held 52 Americans hostage in Tehran for 444 days to be its next ambassador to the United Nations.

The government has applied for a U.S. visa for Hamid Aboutalebi, who has already served as ambassador to Belgium and Italy, Bloomberg reported Saturday. He was a member of the Muslim Students Following the Imam’s Line (referring to the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini), the group that seized the U.S. Embassy on Nov. 4, 1979, and held American staff hostage until Ronald Reagan’s inauguration in 1981.

It's a slap to the face of America because they do not respect the president.

It's his piss poor job of handling foreign issues that welcomes openly insulting moves by our adversaries. Do yourself a favor and read this damning column by Bret Stephens, which shows how Obama's lack of leadership and resolve leads to this kind of bullshite.

Just once example he mentions:

quote:

In late December, Mr. Obama warned Congress that he would veto legislation to impose new sanctions on Iran if the Islamic Republic violated its nuclear commitments. It was essential, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said, to do nothing that "will undermine our efforts to achieve a peaceful resolution."

A few weeks later, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif laid a wreath at the tomb of Imad Mughniyeh, mastermind of the 1983 bombing of the U.S. Marine barracks in Beirut, the 1985 hijacking of TWA 847 and countless other acts of international terrorism. Apparently Mr. Zarif didn't much fear undermining efforts to achieve a peaceful resolution.

I agree.

They are a radical Islamic govt. It seems that someone like this would be an obvious choice since they always pounce on any opportunity to needle the West. Why should we have a say in or care who their envoys are?

Exactly. They probably would have appointed this same guy if McCain or Romeny was president.

Plus, technically speaking, he is Ambassador to the UN not the USA. Different thing with different types of diplomatic immunity and priviledges. Heck he can't be names ambassador to USA because there are no official relations between our countries.

The Stephens article gives no proof about specific Obama actions that have lead to any of this.

Plus, he seems irked about how the USA has essentially given up Crimea.

First off, read the opinion polls, almost all Americans dont want us doing more. And Pray tell, how is that different from the Bush administrations essential acceptance of the invasion of Georgia in 1988 and the annexetion of part of its territory?

A terrible article, if he were in my debate class he would have gotten a F.

Would McCain or Romney eased sanctions on the Iranian in return for nothing? The sanctions were finally starting to really work, then Obama swoops in and backs off of them .. all of a sudden the rhetoric and anti-American diplomatic moves are back in full force. He's really fumbling the ball on this one. And Kerry is an absolute joke.

Yeah, that's what the thread title clearly says.

Yes but the State Department can approve his visa and he can be at the table at the U.N. in NYC. That's an embarrassment if it happens.

Foreign politicians, diplomats and leaders openly decrying and mocking the POTUS is a pretty rare occurrence. Guess it's just a coincidence that it's happening more and more on Obama's watch, eh? If you can't see how big of a failure his foreign policy is and how weak he's making the U.S. appear on the world stage you need to take the blinders off.

I don't form my thoughts based off of majority opinion. I'm sure many Americans would also say they favor a government mandated 4-day work week. Doesn't mean it's a good idea.

Bush2 ? If so, you're 2 decades off. And in that case Putin saw what he sees in Obama .. an embattled president with no public or political support to back up his will.

This is pretty damn disgusting.

U.S. should give him creds, soon as his feet are on U.S. soil, arrest his arse for terrorism against U.S. citizens and ship him to Gitmo.
