Shannon Eaton isn’t your typical high school English teacher.

After a long day of educating young minds at Terrebonne High School, she’s ready to unwind by partaking in some pretty unique activities.

From becoming a real-life mermaid to go-go dancing, the 31-year-old never turns down an opportunity to try something new.

While she hasn’t taken formal classes, Shannon said she learned by watching a local synchronized swim team. It wasn’t long after that she learned about a freshwater spring in Florida where water-lovers like herself could attend a camp and become a real-life mermaid.

quote:

Sirens of the Deep Mermaid Camp, held at Weeki Wachee Springs State Park an hour north of Tampa, teaches campers basic underwater ballet moves. Participants can earn a certificate and their mermaid fins.

quote:

“I will be opening Mrs. Shannon’s Swim School this summer. I’m starting off small in my garage giving private one-on-one lessons,” she said.

quote:

“Eventually, I would like to have a pod or a group of mermaids that people can hire to perform at parties,” Eaton said.

So, instead of a furry, I guess she's a "scaly"?
