I have a few clover patches that are doing well and will be planting some soybeans in the coming weeks. I would say I am pretty well versed in those but I have never grown any chufa patches. Does anybody on the OB have experience growing chufa for the turkeys? If so leave all your tips and pointers here please.

Is that different from the nutsedge weed?

You tell me? Seems like if it is a weed the seed wouldn't be $90 for 50 lbs but who knows nowadays.

Just read a little on the NWTF sight. They're are essentially the same thing but the non-native variety doesn't grow as aggressively. I know native nutsedge is a problematic weed and highly prolific because of those little tubers that the other chufa is being sold for.

If you have pigs don't bother with chufa unless you plan on planting some serious acreage. We planted a 2 acre plot of chufa which was reduced to a pile of dirt and turds in less than a week a few years ago.

If you are in Louisiana, this is what will eat all your chufa.

ahh, you just barely beat me.

My dad won't plant chufa as he said they used to plant it back in the day specifically for the hogs. Plant a field of it and then let the hogs in to feast.
