tried to do a search but only came up with outdoor board threads. Really intense, anger-inducing movie.

LINK /

quote:

Mads Mikkelsen (NBC's Hannibal, A ROYAL AFFAIR, CASINO ROYALE) won the Best Actor Award at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival for his penetrating portrayal of Lucas, a former school teacher who has been forced to start over having overcome a tough divorce and the loss of his job. Just as things are starting to go his way, his life is shattered when an untruthful remark throws his small community into a collective state of hysteria. As the lie spreads, Lucas is forced to fight a lonely fight for his life and dignity.

Has anyone here seen it? Would like to have a spoilery discussion.

I figure we'll let the first person that posts a spoiler warning mark the open season point for spoilers in this thread. There's plenty to discuss about it and you'll probably be tempted to start a poliboard thread on some of the themes.

I liked The Hunt and I really like Mads Mikkelsen...but it was nowhere near as good as The Secret in Their Eyes, which I've watched probably 5 times now.

Tell No One is great.

Have you seen Mads in "Just Another Love Story"?

I wouldn't say it wasn't in the same league, but yeah, The Secret in Their Eyes is probably in my top 10 films of all time.

Forgot about that one (and I may be forgetting a Korean film that has come out since 2009). I'd put The Hunt about equal with Tell No One.

Nope. Will check it out.

I mean sure. I'm not sure there was anything spoiler worthy...? I felt it was fairly straightforward.

*SPERLERS*

Well there can be a debate as to who took a shot at him at the end. I'd say Klara's brother is definitely the most likely. Some people over at IMDB think that the brother also was molesting Klara based on the elf village scene where he was acting strangely, but I didn't get that feeling at all. And it's not really a debatable thing, but there's no way I stay in that town/forgive those people if I'm Lucas. And I thought Grethe (the woman that ran the school) was by far the biggest piece of shite in the movie. Her and the wannabe psychiatrist.

i think it's irrelevant and the ambiguity of it is deliberate

I don't think it matters too much. It also could have been o one.

I got this feeling multiple times. It made a lot of sense. The only problem is that Klara seemed to be just caught in a bad position rather than being molested and reacting. But if she was, it had to be the brother.

That was his character though.

AGREED. I mean, what were his credentials???? They needed some official witness to that. ALL of his question were leading questions, rather than ask about the process or IF it happened, he just jumped to conclusions and allowed the kid to do the same. And then no one but Theo seemed to listen to Klara. That was the worst part.

Fantastic film though. The tension in the church was unbearable. So well done. And Mads Mikkelson...he's just fantastic. Period.

I thought the brother's attitude in that scene wasn't an unreasonable reaction from someone that was just devastated about what he thought happened to his young sister. He and his friend showing her the dickpic was obviously inappropriate, but it didn't have any sinister perversion to it, just two young teens causing mischief (IIRC the friend may have even been the one to initiate it).

I'll check it out eventually, but I definitely wouldn't let that stop me from watching it.

No shite. IT was awful for Mads' character.

Yep.

As far as The Secret in Their Eyes, I don't really compare the two. Both great but different movies.
