my buddy keeps going to the well with the same handful of running plays against me, yet it keeps working for him (especially frank gore on the read option). i read somewhere that a "4-4 stack cover 2" defense is effective at stopping it, but i've yet to find it anywhere on the game. does that formation even exist on madden 25, or are there any other solid "go to" defenses that work? if it matters, i'm playing it on PS4....thanks.

You can't

Your best bet is in compressed running sets, base align.

yeah, i know it can't be completely stopped, but it'd be nicer if my buddy actually earned some of those yards for a change

Either make a custom play book or use the 46 defensive playbook. I really like the bear nickel Cover 3 against spread type runs... You'll end up with 2 safeties in the box. Try to sub an OLB type of guy to the RDE spot since he is standing up and mess with the defensive line as much as you want. I usually play with the Mike and try to blow stuff up. If you're good on the stick play as the safety to the RB side and have your defensive keys set to commit to the RB and the QB is your responsibility. You can get a lot of fumbles this way. Also wide 9 and the Sugar Bluff Cover 3 works pretty good. For runs out of 2 back or 2 tights I like the bear formations but 4-4 was popular at first. In 4-4 I'd squeeze my D-Line and spread by backers. All in all it's extremely difficult to stop the run on Madden 25

ETA: Those cover 3's tend to take away the curl routes which are extremely annoying! Hopefully this helps a little bit!

A Cover 1 with QB Spy is effective for stopping the read option. It also contains any kind of run.

you can definitely stop the run. You need to be good with your OLB/Jack LB

If you play with a team with good corners, show blitz or load the box.
Hit L2 and decide wether you want to cpu to take the QB or the RB. I believe it's L2 and X for the HB and L2 and Square for thr QB. I do running back alot so I can come in and light em up with the safety or linebacker. Chiefs playbooks are some of the best in the game IMO.

Give him a dose of his own meds, run the Strong I (think that's the name) and call the first pass play on the left, then audible to a run. It'll audible to a Power O play and it's hard to stop.

You're welcome.

thanks for the tips! i'd been on hiatus from madden for awhile, and alot has changed since i last played it. i'd handled my friend pretty well, until he decided to stick with the 49ers exclusively....as a result, i've been watching frank gore run all over me & i haven't been able to stop the fricker yet

Run the the 1-3-7 defense and run man to man (inside blitz) plays with your defensive ends in flat zones.

Cover 2 defense is the best for stopping the outside runs. Anything with flat zones really takes away anything outside.
