Tame Impala's Kevin Parker is the best example I can think of. The guy is John Lennon reincarnated. 
The songs on Lonerism sound like they belong on Revolver.

I love Sturgill and Waylon but don't think they really sound alike. I take him more as a bluegrass Merle.
