If the decision was up to Maryland head coach Randy Edsall, football scholarships would not be extended to players until a recruit’s senior year of high school and that offer would only come from the university’s admissions department. It’s a pretty interesting idea that came up in an interview this week with The Washington Post’s Alex Prewitt.

“You’re trying to offer kids without knowing if they’ll graduate high school,” Edsall said. “People just throw out these offers and there’s not a lot of validity to it.”

So basically he is saying "We suck and I need to try and get any advantage that I could muster up"

I like the idea of not being allowed to offer until they are seniors.

technically, you can't offer until they're seniors (or summer before senior year)... guys receive verbal offers and commit... but they can't get a written offer.

I may be off on the timetable, but there are guidelines in place... A school can't go sending out written offers to high school freshmen.

I like the idea, but this is totally the state of Maryland football currently...

I'm talking about verbals I guess.

I don't think coaches like Kiffin should be accepting verbals from kids who haven't even hit high school.
