However, if you ever want to edit a doc or create something from scratch, you'll need an Office 365 subscription

And of course, all the apps rock the ol' Ribbon UI -- it wouldn't be an Office product without the Ribbon.

I think Microsoft really missed the boat with this one. Should have released it 3 years ago. Between Google Docs and iWork I don't think there is a need for Office for 95% of tablet owners. Unlike the heady days of the 90s and 00s where you had to have Office on your computer to make it a legit getting business done machine.

Agree 100%. Too little too late. Plus I don't use my tablet for serious document creation or editing anyway. Mainly just review and comment. I have a MacBook Pro for the heavy lifting.

No. I don't need that for an iPad.

Same here. I create docs on my MBA, I use the docs on my iPad.

They've had an app for a long time that I paid $10 for that will convert over to Microsoft Office. It included an offbrand of Word, Powerpoint, and Excel. So no I could careless about the "real thing" becoming available.

Yeah, iWork (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote) can all convert to .doc,.docx, .ppt, .xls, etc. and they're all free now.

Excel is still a pretty vital product. Office won't be going anywhere as long as Excel is still on top.

However, using Office on an iPad seems stupid unless you have a real keyboard.

meh. My usage comes in waves. I have the 3rd gen and I'm using it way more now than I was a few months ago. Used it a lot when I first got it.

There is a free app on the Apple Store that is compatible with Excel and MSWord. I use it. No problems.

I'm sorry. I don't want to get into a thing here but anyone that calls an iPad expensive and worthless in 2014 is nothing short of fricking retarded.
