It will go to the full board. Northwestern says if it goes thru they will drop college football. Domino effect. Get ready, most of these greedy kids don't want an education, they want their share of the profits. My vote, put a halt to college football for 4 years and take away the avenue to the NFL and no degree. The world has changed and it is time to call the bluff and let them see what they have without the opportunity.

No one is forcing these kids to play college football. They sign the documents under known pretenses. Including but not limited to a free college education

Just take away the scholarships, but allow those who meet the same entrance requirements as the rest of the student body play football voluntarily.

The crazy part is that you can make legitimate cases for each side. I can read one comment and say "yeah frick them. They getting free education"....then read another and say "the fricking schools are making tens of millions of $ off these kids"...

But this thread will get shitty soon with everyone defending their position...

These students are being greedy - just having the opportunity to play football in front of tens of thousands of people is so incredible... Do they know how many average joes like me wish they could do that, and would do it for absolutely $0?

If you have the physical ability and potential to play pro ball, good luck getting exposure if you don't play college ball.

It's a highly, highly flawed system and there isn't one simple solution to fix it. I think this is a step in the right direction.

And they know this when they sign out of high school. If it bothers them, then they can take out student loans and scrape by in college like everyone else.

A recruit has never had a gun held to his head and been told they had to play college football.

Make them all start paying for tuition, food, room and board, equipment, textbooks, tutors etc.

These kids have a silver spoon in their mouths in college compared to their fellow students and some are bitching because it isn't gold.

Issue is the world of college football has changed. Money!!! But the main reason for college is education, not a launching ramp to the NFL, NBA etc. I do think they should get a bit more than a scholarship, but within limits. For sure not a cut of the profit. You add that factor in and then maybe the college can cut a player for not delivering. Hum interesting thought. So then can they get paid else where, a trade. This can never end in a good way. The whole arena has changed but first things first. Education.

Exactly. Anyone who supports this knows nothing about unions and the strain it puts on businesses/programs. My gosh just look at what teacher's unions have turned the department of education into

An education they may or may not want? Plus at least three years of risking their health without compensation, whereby they can risk future earnings in pro football, while schools capitalize and make literally millions off of them?

Yes, I know. Free education. The glory. Pageantry. Tradition. Not everyone gives a frick about that. Big time recruits are in college because it's the "required" step between high school and their best way to make money in the future.

well they can't play football forever. A college education goes a long way in life after football, considering the average NFL career is 2 years and the average college football player doesn't make the nfl, I think they should be pretty content with coming out of college debt free degree in hand.

"You're not starting me? I'm on strike."

"You want me to run what play? Let me check with my union rep."

"We need to negotiate this practice schedule."
