Why did the Baseball team let Cliff Godwin go as hitting coach?

Cliff Godwin helped our hitters have a great 08 campaign. He helped recruit that great 07 class that helped us win the NC in 09.

Matt Clark, Blake Dean, Lemahieu, Schimpf and Gibbs really thrived under him in 08.

He started at Ole Miss in 2012. With a LOT less talent, they've out hit LSU from 2012-present .292-.288.

This year, they have a .303 BA to our .278. They also have 19 HR to our 6.

Just wondering why Paul let him walk to UCF with Rooney...

Maybe he just wanted to leave? We can't force people to stay at LSU.

Well he probably wanted to get out on his own. People leave jobs all the time. You can't hold a gun to his head.

.

So, he left LSU to take the same position at UCF? Doesn't make sense

Yeah it does. He had coached under Mainieri for a number of years. Sometimes people want to get out on their own. You think someone ran him off?

No. I think UCF offered a little more money or title and PM didn't want/feel it necessary to match it.

No, that's why I prefaced my sentence with "I think."

Javi and his tee ball techniques is showing great dividends.

No doubt. 10 runs in 40 innings. Definitely showing dividends.

Last year LSU's team batting average was .305 and Ole Miss' team batting average was. .277.

Right. LSU's team was loaded with talent, while Ole Miss' was really young and terrible, talent-wise.

This year, LSU still has a lot more talent, but is still being out hit.

So what you're saying is, blame Javi for the bad hitting and don't give him credit for the good?

No, he was the number 3 guy here, he left to be the number 2 guy at UCF.

What I'm saying, is that there's been an inordinate amount of bad hitting vs. good.

And yet they have still outhit us from an average standpoint by 4 points from 2012 to present.
