This seems to have died off. Nobody plays with model trains anymore. I may bring this back.

It got too expensive. The only people I know that have them now are doctors or very successful business men.

My dad built me a set when I was a kid and loved that thing. Also remember getting so excited when we would got to New Orleans so I could go to the train store in the Riverwalk. Is that store still around?

It requires room with wood paneling and that has gone out of style.

Seriously - my dad recently built a great layout in his basement.

My Dad is big into them. His whole garage is a train display. My kids love them. He is a member of the Baton Rouge Train Club that has a bunch of setups with different scales in Jackson, LA.

If you have kids or just like model trains, the club is open to the public on 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month. There used to be a larger steam locamotive that you could pay to ride but it has been shut down for several years right now. The owner of the train is currently getting it fixed. Don't know when it will be reopened.

Here is a link to their webpage:

I had to stop in Hobby Lobby the other day to get some paints for my son (he's building a Sopwith Camel). Right next to the model kit isle they have a model train isle. Someone is still buying them it seems.

I have an Uncle who is a retired engineer from IBM, who has a massive train set up in his basement. He has built that thing for at least the last 50 years.

Check Hobby Lobby. I don't know if their cheaper compared to Ebay but they do have a huge selection from what I can tell.

I had mine confiscated as a kid because I figured out a way to make sparks from the train set and started catching shite on fire. Good times, good times.

I had a friend in high school who had a whole shed dedicated to model trains, it was massive and pretty impressive.
He works on trains now doing something
