Completely agree, but I have to wonder why Jones needs to be learning at this point in his career. He's been a college coach for nearly 30 years, and head coach of D-I programs for 14 years. He should already know how to coach x and o's, how to substitute, how to use timeouts, and how to motivate.

Sure, we all continue to learn throughout our careers, but this is basic stuff that any coach with a few years experience should know. It greatly concerns me that Jones seems lacking at this stage in his career.

I do think you coach differently when you are at a school with low expectations vs a school with high expectations. This is his first high expectations team. At UNT they were not expected to win all the time. He exceeded expectations at a poor program, but lets see if he can get a good program back to its high status.

We'll never run an offense like John Beilein's Michigan offense. Jones allows more freedom, and I think we'll have to live with some sloppy play at times. It can still be a great style of play though, and I think it attracts recruits to LSU. Our defense was another story this season. Just too much inconsistency.

Defense is so much about effort and it's just impossible to know if all that can be blamed on the head coach. He can try to motivate till he's blue in the face but the player has to do it himself.

Our guards are small, Mickey needs to add weight, and Jarell took time adjusting after his injury.

Yeah I feel like this team played hard. They just didn't always play smart. I'm not sure it was ever a laziness issue. Just my 2 cents.

I really wish JOB would return...we'd have something to really get excited about. I think Mickey comes back for sure. I'll give Coach Jones a break due to our small guards...but he needs to show more X & O ability next year. We know he can recruit....

As down as the SEC is relative to other big time basketball conferences I do still think it's at a significantly different level than the Sun Belt where CJJ got most of his head coaching experience.

One example is that from everything I heard pre-season and read he fully expected Quarterman to have a much more significant impact early.

I think he counted on it. And it was a mis-evaluation.

This is a higher level. He has still much to learn at a head coach here.

I'm not sure how much the years as an assistant here helped in that regard either. It's a very different game now than then and much of his time here he wasn't the lead assistant making alot of the important decisions.

But one thing you would have thought he would have learned from Dale, motivation....seems to be the area he has the most to go in.

I think he did a good job motivating his first season as a HC. The '12-'13 team overachieved a little bit too. I don't think he forgot how to motivate.

Coleman and Stringer had great senior seasons. Can't fault either of those two for effort and heart. JOB had a mixed season and we seemed to rise or fall on his shoulders way too much. I think with him gone we can have a more balanced team offense. I do think he has a shot at a pro career as he won't be double teamed in the pros and they almost never call walking. Defense will have to improve though.

We don't have the schedule or the final roster so no predictions for next year. I have also learned not to put too much faith in players who haven't proved themselves yet. Josh Gray comes in with a lot of hype but JC isn't the same as the SEC. The two freshmen big men will undoubtedly be rough and have a lot to learn. Perhaps Odo can play more and give us some solid minutes until they settle in. Mickey needs to get stronger, Martin needs a better jump shot and Hickey needs to drive and dish more often. I think Hornsby is the missing link and will have to come through for us to have a good season. We need solid steady play from him as he will be filling both Andre and Colman's shoes.

Looking back I don't think this team was lazy as much as they were all kind of laid back personalities. When they were excited and had the adrenaline going they were great. Almost like two different teams which is what made them so hard to watch at times. Never knew if you were going to get Dr. Jekyl or Mr. Hyde.

Really need some team leadership that will get us fired up and keep us that way. Hope Gray or Hornsby can do that because Hickey is just not that way.
