Sheryl Crow as a "country" artist

Went to see George Strait Saturday night and he had Sheryl as his one and only opening act. It was better than listening to another nauseating bro country act, but Sheryl just isn't a country artist. Working in a steel guitar on All I Wanna Do or doing an acoustic version of Strong Enough with a mandolin worked in is not country.
I can understand her not having another musical outlet, as pop has moved too far away from any nominal rock act getting mainstream pop success. Has anyone checked out her new album and is it more of the same?

I dunno but strong enough with a mandolin sounds like it would be really good. Just didn't fit?

I'd much rather crow than Jason Aldean or Luke Bryan or some other slapdick like that.

Does she sing about a truck? Dirt road? Being country?

quote:No, it was good. Her whole set was good, just not (IMHO) country music, especially not in a vein that seems like it would appeal to a George Strait crowd.

I would much rather listen to an hour of Sheryl than an hour of Fla/Ga Line, Luke Bryan, etc.
But at the same time I wish there was another genre to put all of these people (Crow, Hootie, etc.) that are becoming "country" acts because they don't get airplay on the pop side anymore - Alan Jackson was a Nostradomus when he wrote Gone County in the early 90s.
Yes I'm old.
