Municipalities that generate more than 50 percent of their revenue from speeding tickets would be required the erect signs labeling themselves “speed traps” under a bill approved Monday morning by the House Transportation Committee.

The vote was 9-3.

The proposal, House Bill 961, next faces action on the House floor.

Livonia was terrible before the state smacked their bitch arse down and shrunk the city limits.

Same thing happened to Dodson but they are still trying hard with their blacked out Chargers.

Frankly, while I approve of killing these bull shite police departments, the REAL problem is that we allow fines for speeding in the first place.

Fines are a direct incentive for police officers to prioritize likelihood of gaining a fine over actual safety concerns. That's why you find so many cops on near deserted roads late at night. Meanwhile, in places where actually catching a speeder is more challenging due to heavier traffic, cops are near invisible.

Fines are also a perverse incentive for corruption. At the least, ZERO fine revenue should go to local police departments. That would take the incentive away. But, I personally think there should be no fines but rather, a simple point system that generates fines over time.
