Maybe not as soon as this year but Putin covets them.

Does Obama live up to our agreement with NATO and scramble fighters as he should when Putin masses troops along their borders?

Or does he continue with the ' This not in Russia 's best interests' bullshite. As if those words are some kind of veiled threat.

We signed agreements with our NATO allies .

It will soon be time for Obama to end that long search for his balls. I kinda feel sorry for him. He was never the man for the job and now it's almost time for him to man up...I really don't think he can.

This won't be murdering people in a desert thousands of miles away like the drone video game that he's been playing.

This will be real. This decision is coming and we have a fricking community organizer at the helm.

Damn.

Why does Putin covet the Balkans? What advantage does he gain by their inclusion into Russia?

Make a trade. You can have Chicago and all of California. We'll take the Balkan. Seems like an even trade.

Maybe if you forced Detroit on them too.

Since when does Putin covet the Balkans?

Yugoslava and the Soviet Union were never friendly towards each other. Yugoslavia was never in the Warsaw Pact. Tito and Stalin had different ideas about Socialism.

There isn't any historical basis like there is with Crimea.

Serbs belong with Russia and nobody else has ever supported them. They are a part of the pan-Slavic peoples.

This is a Slavic affair, and therefore the rest of the world needs to stay out of it and allow Russia to do what's necessary within its sphere of influence.

The equivalent of this would be Chavez or Castro threatening to reclaim the Latino population in the American Southwest, so how would you all feel about Putin threatening to come in and aid such an affair in our country?

If you do indeed mean Balkans, he will have to go through Ukraine or Turkey to get to them unless you believe he's going to launch attacks from Crimea. That's a ridiculous premise and a massive waste of resources. If he were to go after the Balkans he would be much better served taking Ukraine first so he can march an army in. Trying to invade by water along (even with air support) is needlessly costly in both manpower and time.

If you mean the Baltic countries, well then that's a whole other issue. The problem with this is there's no real gain for doing so.

Putin took Crimea in large part due to Crimean compliance. Neither the Baltics nor Balkans would be so welcoming. Not only would there probably be an eventual NATO response but there would be STIFF local responses.

Stalin, is that you?

Your statements seem to come directly from the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact, specifically from the "secret protocols."

Massively horrible analogy.

Compliance under the duress of having boots on the ground occupying the territory. I'm sure no ones believes the Russian Cossacks were there to keep the peace, right?

this board is so fricking delusional. California's GDP is like $2T. The economy is larger than all of Russia. They make up like 12% of our total economic output, and a shite ton of our innovation - apple, google, facebook - but hey since they have a liberal or two frick EM LET'S GET RID OF THEM.

The Russians mobilizing to protect the interests of Slavs on the Balkan Peninsula. Seems legit.

What could go wrong...?

and germany would freak the frick out. The balkans and the baltics are really close to germany, and they have not such a nice history with Russia.

Notice how I didn't mention that they were welcomed with open arms? ;) You can either fight or you can be France, they chose to be France.
