Why does everyone hate these cars so much? It seems like people on this board love to hate on them. Whats wrong with building an alternative?

This is why you must slap a toe warmer on the back of your phone while snow skiing.

It must suck for the Prius owners who get 47 mpg in cold weather rather than 53 in warm weather. Dumbasses.

I work in the oil and gas business, and it doesnt bother me. The need for oil and gas will be there for a long time

I just got out of the oil business, and none of us gave a frick about them. one of my coworkers drove a Prius

but a lot of people in Texas and Louisiana, as evidenced by this board, hate on electric cars like it's the cool thing to do

I'm all for developing alternatives, but the truth is that these vehicles are very limited. Only 47 miles on a charge in cold weather? And 69 miles in the heat? This doesn't even take into account that they're not as environmentally friendly as many people believe, because after all, they are charged with electricity which is generated by fossil fuels (mostly coal). As we move towards more renewables, the environmental benefits will increase.

I'd buy a Prius before any electric, but they're thousands more than a comparably sized gas vehicle that will also get pretty good mileage. You have to drive a lot of miles to make up a $5000+ sticker price difference.

Personally I don't hate electric cars, just not sure they are the future. Sort of like investing in HD-DVD technology.

They have made some cool cars, but the limitations are what are going to hold these back. People blame it on an addiction to oil, but it is an addiction to a lifestyle that oil has allowed is to live.

Replace oil with hydrogen for all I care as long as it doesn't change the lifestyle.

I have a hybrid car - my MPG goes from 47-48 in the warm months to 41-42 in the cold.

Batteries are batteries. You can't change physics/chemistry.

I know that. Just throwing it out there to add to the conversation - figured it was relevant?

Thanks for the recommendation on the Macallan btw. I bought a bottle 2 nights ago and enjoyed it.

I don't think people are hating on the cars, as much as they are hating on the people that drive them.
