forward some ideas to get more local control over neighborhood schools to the neighborhood.

LINK

His general outline gives more control to the principals, and schools. His ideas coincide with some things floated by BRAC and Bodi White.

quote:

In some ways, Taylor’s plan follows the general themes of the vision being espoused by other groups who are proposing ways to change the district’s governance structure. The Baton Rouge Area Chamber is developing legislation, and city of St. George supporter Sen. Bodi White has proposed a bill that would divide the district into four “sub-districts.”

Of course some who are part of the status quo don't like this and one lashed out against BRAC,

quote:

Board member Randy Lamana objected to the idea of reducing the size of the board.

"I'm tired of the chamber trying to interfere in running the school system," he said. "I think we do a good job running the school system. Let them worry about the businesses in Baton Rouge."

Personally, I like the fact that Taylor is thinking outside the box and I wish him luck in forming some kind of coalition that forms a plan to better the school system in the parish.

Baton Rouge businesses: doing pretty well.

Baton Rouge schools: having to cheat to graduate folks.

He might want to re-think his statement (if he can pull his head out of his arse long enough).

Remember, BRAC has a PAC and pushed several candidates for school board. They have taken a very active approach (and should be commended for it). However, that has probably ticked off a few people in the process.

It's all boiling down to politics, and educating the kids get lost in the discussion as people battle to keep power and control.

Good point.
