How do NFL players get paid (compared to how peasants like us get paid)?

I'm comparing this to how you or I get paid, which I assume is something along the lines of once every two weeks.
How do NFL players get paid? Is their guaranteed money written at a lump sum on the league's new year? Do they get 16 game checks that are equally divided from their guaranteed yearly salary? What happens in the offseason? Are roster bonuses and all that just a one time payment?
Sorry if stupid question.

A friend of mine grew up with David Lefleur in Westlake and lived with him a few years in Dallas.
He said they get paid every Monday of the season. It's their salary divided up by the games in a season. So when he lived with Big Dave he recalls Dave getting like $120K checks every Monday.
If they make the playoffs they get that same pay for as long as they are in the payoffs. Any contract bonuses are paid as they reach them or at the end of the season.

So those roster bonuses are lump sums, then? One time payments? That requires a lot of discipline...no wonder why some of these dudes are broke after their careers are over.

Have you ever seen the "Broke" 30 for 30?

Actually I believe they get a reduced rate for playoffs:
ETA:
Yep
Pay scale
Wild-card game (division winners): $23,000
Wild-card game (non-division winners: $21,000
Divisional playoff game: $23,000
Conference championship game: $42,000
Super Bowl winning team: $92,000
Super Bowl losing Team: $46,000
For everyone

As far as I recall they are lump sums.
He has told me all sorts of stories about the NFL and Dallas from that time, but it's been a while back when we spoke about it so I may be off on some of the details.
I'll have to ask him again when I see him.
He also told me how a week or so before the draft the Cowboys called and said Aikman wanted to throw a few passes with Dave. A few days later the team heli lands on Westlake High School field and out pops Aikman. He throws some passes with Dave, doesn't say much, then gets on the chopper and leaves. At the time Dave said it was pretty surreal.

It may have changed but I remember him telling me that back then it was what they would normally get after a regular season game.

I could not imagine my feelings after being handed a $20M check.

@stout, that's really fascinating.

Players can choose to get less money all year as opposed to just during the season.

Correct, for example if Peyton Manning plays this upcoming season, his tax debt to New Jersey would be greater than his Super Bowl check.
There was an article I believe in Forbes, that broke down how much Manning would owe the state of NJ. He has a 2nd game against New York this up coming season.

Speak for yourself peasant, the rest of us are OT-ballers.

You get your game checks every Monday and bonuses are paid either at the beginning or end of the season in lump sums.
