Everyone knows the usual
- waze
- textra
- power toggles
- etc

but here are some real winners i've installed
- f-droid (sideload) lets you keep 'non play store' apps like adaway updated OTA
ROOT - adaway (see above) when installed from the alternate opensource f-droid store it keeps updating
ROOT - dns hostname - changes the awful network name of my android from '23403923423-android' to 'cads nexus 5' so when checking out my router settings, i can tell who's android device is who's. (i have 4 android devices)
- sitecom controller!! simple, elegant and free. put this on and you can see all your windows media shares (videos, music, pics, etc.) NO SERVER CRAP TO INSTALL ON YOUR PC LIKE THAT PLEX shite AND NO bullshite SUBSCRIPTION bullshite
- mx player - perfect complement to sitecom; lets you play your 1080p MKV (and all other) media shared from a windows PC on your phone
- cracked pandora (no ads, unlimited skips). everyone should have this pandora
- audio glow - simple beautiful visualization for any music playing on your phone
- zillow - nosy? want to see the value of the homes & businesses around you superimposed on them as you drive down the road? yep, thought so

games, meh i dont really play much but i kinda like that 'smashhit' someone on here recommended.

Kindle app

kinda sucks. it croaks on my password protected PDFs i get frequently from salesforce at work.

so i had to remove it as default PDF player even though i liked it better than quickoffice.

You might want to mention to people that most of the apps you listed are root only.

you cant. android is virtually impossible to brick.

but make sure you got nothing on it first (get your photos & stuff off)

then go to XDA, grab wugfresh's TOOLKIT (if your phone is supported or which ever one supports note 3) and find a YOUTUBE video that walks you through it.

easiest way to go.

once you root you wont go back. it opens up a whole new world for your phone.
