Would you take up arms against a state that wanted to leave the Union?

Let's say that tomorrow Iowa announced it was leaving the United States and would no longer recognize the laws of that country. A call is made for able bodied US citizens to go to that state and quell the movement, by force if necessary. Would you be willing to go if asked?

Not trying to 'prove' anything about what happened in the past, just a hypothetical for the board.

1) They had better NOT do that right here before the NCAA Basketball Tournament

2) I'd celebrate their leaving. I get sooo tired of hearing how important their white citizens are every 4 years "So-And_so won the Iowa Caucasians"
"Who is going to win the Iowa Caucasians?"
"The Iowa Caucasians determine the nominee!"

Not trying to bash on you... but there is no way in hell they call up an untrained force.

We couldn't get there, anyway.

Iowa has the corn and federal regulations require that ethanol in our gas.....we'd have no fuel to drive into Davenport

Training would be provided. Assume for the exercise that you are enlisting in a military unit and will receive training before going to the location.

Just wondering if people would be willing to employ violence against others who wanted to disassociate themselves from the country.

Make it California and I'll send them some guns to defend their territory in hopes that they succeed in leaving.

If it's a red state I would support other red states joining them. If it's a blue state like California or New York then good riddance.

So the answer is no.

If California itself split up, I'd move in a heartbeat. The proposed state of Jefferson (Northern California and Southern Oregon) would be an awesome place to live.

More realistic: Puerto Rico.

People can't leave town when a cat 5 storm is heading for them, you think they would travel cross country for a fight? I'd say bye.

That area + the state government of NH or the Dakotas = win.

In your scenario there is almost zero reason or passion to go.
No moral or financial reasons will get you little in the way of people volunteering and willing to be killed.
Also everyone 1st reaction will be to ask "why have I been sending my money to Washington for?"

Also most would say just cut them off. Dam the rivers block the roads freeze all assets and drone their arse into the stone age. See how the Iowaians like being strangled to death 1st.

Hows that?
