Obama currently giving them to "overlooked veterans" who apparently didn't get Medals of Honor because they were members of established victim classes.

LINK
quote:

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is moving to right old wrongs by belatedly awarding the Medal of Honor to 24 Army veterans who served during World War II, Korea and Vietnam.

Just three of those being honored during Tuesday's ceremony at the White House are still alive, all of them combat veterans of Vietnam.

The honors are being awarded after Congress ordered a review to determine whether service members of Jewish or Hispanic heritage or others had been wrongly denied the Medal of Honor due to prejudice. All of those being honored had previously been awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, the nation's second-highest military award.

Overall, eight of the 24 fought in Vietnam, nine in Korea and seven in World War II.

The Congressional Medal of Honor Society was a client of mine. I'd point out the numerous minority MOH recipients, but seeing as how the President currently giving them away got a Nobel Prize for being black, I'm sure it would fall on deaf ears.

Actually No it isn't

I just saw on the news there is only around 75 living recipients compared to when it was around 500.

Unless you served I really don't think you have room to say shite about this.

"Well, this guy's black, so I'll put him in for a Distinguished Service Cross instead of the MOH."

Yeah. I'm sure that was the thought process of many a CO back in the day.

According to the OP, the new recipients were Jewish and Hispanic, not Black.

I'm sure it has more to do with the WWII and Korean War vets dying out and some Vietnam guys as well. Those were large conflicts with large conscripted armies.

But it's Obama. A complaint must be lodged.

Fine.

Plug in either one instead of "black". Your silly semantics aside, the point stands.

Of course that made the numbers rise, but many of these guys were Vietnam vets.

My point is unless you put on the uniform who the frick are you as a civilian to question a service members record when it comes to deployments and and decs they have earned.

Wasn't standard procedure up until recently that no one living was presented a MoH...

Thanks, professor, but I've met and worked for most of them. Even though I didn't serve, I'm still allowed to be offended that the administration sees fit to dig up 24 minorities and struggle to find a reason to hand them MOH's. I'm listening to their citations right now. Very impressive. Guess what? I know a lot of men with impressive combat stories, and they didn't get retroactive MOH's.

This is about the continued deification of minorities for the sake of it and for no good reason. Fact.

Why does everything has to be about race? The military should be the most color-blind segment of our society, yet we can't even award deserving veterans an award without doing it to right the wrong of some alleged discrimination.

If they earned it, they earned it and they deserve our respect and gratitude. Don't use the occasion to play a belated race card.

I don't think it's wrong to question something like this if it is suspected that it is politically motivated. I don't think other medal recipients would appreciate someone getting the same recognition if they didn't truly earn it.

Yet you didn't serve but you are critical of someone who put themselves in harms way for this country.

Just looking for an excuse to hate on Obama. There are plenty of other legit reasons.

It happens, not everyone get the recognition they deserve for heroic actions.

How about a review of Dick Winters' record?

He led an assault on a fortified position overlooking Utah Beach that's used to this day at West Point as a textbook example of how to do so. Yet he was denied the MOH (instead awarded a DSC) because of some silly rule at the time that only one MOH per division could be awarded (the 101st's MOH recipient was a Lt. Col. who led a bayonet charge on D-Day, and was then killed in Market Garden before receiving the award).

Let's look at that one.

I am as conservative as anyone on this board. To take away anything that these men did is truely disgusting. They are great americans and deserve to be honored .

No, I'm critical of the President who sees fit to award these men retroactively for political reasons.

But this is just another example of what he has done to this country. We now must endure ineptitude if the person in question is a member of a sainted victim class.
