No-lose situation for him. If Knicks win it's all him. If Knicks continue to lose then it's because James Dolan is a meddlesome owner. Teflon Phil.

Isn't it past the trade deadline? Not sure anyone would want to trade for a player who only has a couple weeks left on contract anyways

He's a free agent in 2015. So maybe this summer...and maybe not.

I'm confused how him being president will make them play better. Their coach and team still sucks. Unless MJ or Kobe in their primes show up they are going to continue to suck

Well you can't deny that guys like PJ and Pat Riley command respect from NBA players. I think he'll mainly help with attracting free agents once all of these contracts come off the books. He won't help much in the short term.

He'll also put his coaches in the organization, put his scouts, all of that good stuff. That organization has nowhere to go but up.

I agree with this but it's not like the Knicks have had problems getting top FA's recently. They got JR Smith, Amare Stoudmire, Carmelo Anthony (all through through trade), and Tyson Chandler in recent years. Those are all pretty good FA hauls.

Their problem is their coach and they get the wrong TYPE of stars. They just go after the highest dollar guy on the market and think he will be awesome there.

You act like it is extremely difficult for a team like the Knicks or Lakers to overhaul their roster.

What does this have to do with Phil Jackson?

Well yeah that's what I meant. Stoudimire, Melo, JR Smith are not guys that I want to build a championship team around personally. Honestly they should've gotten Lebron a few years back and maybe a guy like PJ legitimately puts the Knicks in the running for the summer of '15 if Lebron opts in this year.

Wouldn't surprise me at all. It also wouldn't surprise me if that gets Phil back on the bench as well.

Phil isn't going to coach again. He wouldn't even coach with the Lakers unless they paid him a ridiculous amount and made it where he didn't have to go to regular season road games, which is fricking stupid.

Dude just loves baseball and loves money and wants to be apart of something.

They need to blow it up. S&T Melo, do everything you can to get rid of JR Smith, Felton. Let Bargs, Amare, etc expire after next offseason. Basically, just be terrible next year.

Then use your money and a higher pick the following year to rebuild around the Triangle. Start completely over.

But they won't do that. They'll resign Melo and try to build around him, again.

He's got a PO to opt out. Which he has already said that he will.

Melo will never win a championship as the centerpiece of a team. That's a fact.

S&T Melo
Pretty sure Jackson sees this on the horizon. And yes no doubt he predicated his contract on the possibility of a dumpster fire next year.
