LSU Graduate School of Banking?

Has anybody on here attended this institution? A banker in my deal team did as well as U of Florida's grad school of banking. Evidently you only go down to the city which it is based out of for a few weeks and the rest is done from a distance as in his case he lives in Charlotte and previously in FL and SC. Just curious how legitimate these grad school of banking degrees are as they are not MBAs or really Masters degrees. I cannot ask him as his opinion would clearly be skewed in favor of the two and would not be objective.

LINK

Thread way back sometime. I did it. I'm biased, but if you plan on staying in community banking it is pretty highly regarded.

SMU has a good program, too, I think.

Not sure about Graduate School but most of the bankers I know in Mississippi (Ole Miss and Miss State guys) have attended a 2-3 week bankers school at LSU paid for by their bank and all have said it was great. Based upon this I would assume LSU would have a great graduate program.

How long of a program is this LSU Graduate School of Banking including the distance learning part? Also how much does it cost?

re: LSU Graduate School of Banking?

I think it's useful for someone who went into banking from a different academic background. If you have a Finance degree or similar, you probably won't learn anything you don't already know, and if you have an MBA or MS you def. won't learn anything you don't already know. But it's another box to check off on the resume. Not saying it's of no value, but they do tend to oversell what it is they're offering,

Andd IMNSHO, the name is misleading. It's on the LSU campus and taught by LSU professors, but it's not an Academic program. It's run by the Bankers Association and you don't get an academic degree from attending. I assume, but don't know for a fact, that the other graduate schools of banking are like this. If a postgraduate degree is what you're looking for, get into a regular grad school.

I had an MBA going into it and I learned plenty. An MBA doesn't teach you about ALCO modeling, duration and doesn't have you spend 2 straight weeks running a bank simulation.

I live in DC now and any regularly hear LSU regarded as 1 of the top 3 banking schools in the nation.

Also, look at the first guy in the clip - He's the Virginia Banker's Association President and he's been on the LSU Banking School Board for a long long time. That banking school has a ton of credibility in the banking world.

I learned about duration in undergrad, so YMMV.

As did I...my concentration was in investments so that made sure of it.

Great, so there are two super star bankers out there that don't feel the need for banking school. Let me

sorry that Harvard missed your application in high school

I didn't claim that, but I'll take that as a compliment. I couldn't go to GSB if I wanted to anyway.

And I can tell you with direct knowledge and experience that a Harvard education does not guarantee you a damn thing when it comes to understanding duration and interest rate risk!
