What would it take to get one in your garage to work on the wife's brakes, etc?

Look into Titan Lifts.

Great product. We got one from there for $4000

If you get good at, head to harbor freight and get yourself some semi-tall jacks and one of those big "racing" jacks. We used them at the boat shop and were jacking up trailers with the quickness.

We used them on the big 2500s too and with a crawler it was pretty comfortable underneath.

But I can totally understand wanting a lift, I'll put one in my next house/garage.

Way too expensive to justify for what I do but would be badass none the less.

I've got a two post, a four post and a frame machine

a friend has a two post in his work shop at home for his hobby rock crawler builds.

o'reilly's sells some smallish two posts for like 3k. you can't walk under them but they get the vehicles up high enough to get under them. 4 foot max height i think.

Figure that they will last about ten years and then calculate the cost per lift. If you are just going to be doing routine maintenance on your cars the per lift cost will be like $100. Not worth it.

Perhaps you could build a ramp frame and platform which you could winch the car up using a power winch. You could use heavy duty wood in the frame and either wood or metal wheel trays. The total cost of a heavy duty frame with solid wheel tracks for ramp, and a motor winch bolted to the wall at the top, would be much less than an overhead power lift.

Of course you would still have to use a regular jack and some stands up on the rack.

What would the ceiling height have to be to have a lift that you could work on say anything but a Miata?

Harbor Frieght sells a lift. Be good for a homeowner.
