March 17, 2014, New Orleans, La. - Holy Cross will open a primary school for boys, consisting of grades Pre-Kindergarten through Fourth Grade, starting in the 2015-16 school year. The “Holy Cross Primary School” will be located in the classroom building at Transfiguration of the Lord Church on the corner of Elysian Fields and Prentiss (5601 Elysian Fields Avenue). Plans are being finalized and details will be announced soon regarding curriculum, registration, and tuition.

Holy Cross School is currently structured as a Middle School (grades 5-7) and High School (grades 8-12). The addition of grades PreK – 4 will structure Holy Cross School as the only PreK-12 boys Catholic school in the greater New Orleans area. Mr. Charles J. DiGange ‘64, Headmaster of Holy Cross School says, “The congregation of Holy Cross has been educating young men in the city of New Orleans for the past 164 years. The addition of a Primary School will allow Holy Cross to expand our “boys to men” mission, offering Catholic education from PreK through 12th grade”.

Great news for my old hood and alma mater. Going right next to Transfiguration (Old St. Raphael) where Marion Central used to be.

This expansion is in response to the Archdioscese restructuring of schools.

Glad HC is moving along with their expansion.

Hehehe, a big bird to the Archdioscese.
Not only are we not getting rid of our middle school, we are going to also open up a primary school. No fricks were given.

Catholic school system is so money hungry.

The Catholic grad schools really miscalculated by pushing the Archdiocese to prevent high schools from starting earlier than 8th grade. This is the result. Now existing high school smust begin in 8th grade or restructure and run K-12. This will take even more students away from Catholic grade schools even earlier.
